Cill Chaoil - Church of the Narrows

Kilkeel, translated as 'Church of the Narrows', was an ecclesiastical site since the sixth century and is the capital of the Kingdom of Mourne. The ruins of the 14th century church of St Colman stand in the town centre. Kilkeel became the market centre and place of government of Mourne after replacing Greencastle as the capital in the mid 16th century.

Kilkeel Harbour has one of the largest fishing fleets in Ireland and today the boats specialise in off shore bottom trawling for prawns, through many of the yawls and skiffs kept in the port are still used for inshore fishing. The Nautilus Centre at the harbour has retail facilities, where freshly caught fish can be purchased, along with fishing tackle and souvenirs.
